The body image-obsessed fashion industry and selfless nature of philanthropy may sometimes seem like polar opposites, but the two worlds came together perfectly last week in one very special fashion show. On April 21, the Tri-Gamma Women’s Nursing Society of the University of San Francisco held their annual Spring Charitable Fashion Show, with Carb DM as their sole beneficiary. The society donated 100% of the proceeds from the show to Carb DM. With record levels of attendance and donations, the Tri-Gamma Society was able to donate over $7000 to Carb DM!
Established in 1946, the Tri-Gamma Women’s Nursing Society provides USF nursing students with opportunities for camaraderie and community service. Each year, the society organizes a fashion event to showcase nonprofit organizations around the Bay Area. Tri-Gamma members and featured guests model clothes and accessories from various San Francisco boutiques. In addition, the event features musical performances, raffle draws, and other activities. Now on its 35th year, the Fashion Show has become one of the society’s biggest events.
Tri-Gamma and Carb DM
This year, the organization chose Carb DM as its sole beneficiary. As nursing students at the University of San Francisco, diabetes education is a cause near and dear to many Tri-Gamma members’ hearts. In their clinical placements, it is common that a majority of their patients have a history of or are currently diagnosed with diabetes. Therefore, they see first-hand the impact that diabetes has on families. They understand how education and community programs can help diabetes patients live fuller lives. In addition, three Tri-Gamma members have type 1 diabetes, which makes their choice of beneficiary even more personal. Two of those members are graduating seniors. “Carb DM is especially important to us,” say Jessica Casero and Anya Miller, this year’s Fashion Show coordinators. “It would be an incredible send off for them to honor them by donating to Carb DM!”
On behalf of the entire Bay Area type 1 diabetes community, we would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the Tri-Gamma Women’s Nursing Society! Your work exemplifies Tri-Gamma’s commitment to academic excellence, strong character, community service, and to each other. Your generous donation will help hundreds of people with type 1 diabetes to Connect. Learn. and Thrive.
