November is National Diabetes Month! All month long, individuals, health care professionals, organizations, and communities across the country are working to bring attention to diabetes and its impact on millions of Americans. There are many ways to take part, from wearing blue to attending a Wellness Fair at Stanford to spreading the word on social media. Carb DM’s calendar is chock-full of events for November. We are celebrating our seventh anniversary this year, so in addition to our regular events we have no less than seven special events on our calendar. Come and celebrate with National Diabetes Month with Carb DM:
November 1-21: Hang an Ornament. Help Carb DM
Sponsor an ornament on the Carb DM Holiday Tree! We are decorating a tree at San Jose’s Christmas in the Park to celebrate the T1D community and honor people who face the challenges of diabetes every single day.
November 5-9: 5 Days of Diabetes Challenge
Help us spread awareness of the power of community. Complete all five daily challenges and share them on social media for a chance to win an Amazon gift card!
November 14: Sign Dr. Banting’s Birthday Card
November 14, World Diabetes Day, is also the birthday of Dr. Frederick Banting, the co-discoverer of insulin. People with T1D literally owe their lives to Dr. Banting, so we are partnering with Beyond Type 1 to give Dr. Banting a world record-breaking birthday greeting! On November 14, go online to BantingsBirthday.org, sign a digital birthday card for Dr. Banting, and share what the discovery of insulin means to you. Encourage as many people as you can to do the same. Not only will you get the chance to win prizes, you’ll be part of the diabetes community’s attempt to break the Guinness World Record most signatures on a digital card!
November 14: World Diabetes Day
Wear blue and come to our East Bay Beer & Basals to celebrate World Diabetes Day. Take a whack at our pancreas piñata, raise a glass to your loved ones living with T1D and sing Happy Birthday to Dr. Federick Banting, Nobel Prize winner and co-discoverer of insulin.
November 18: Christmas in the Park, Carbs in the Park: Ornament Crafting
Carbs in the Park is getting crafty for the holidays! Join us on November 18 and make diabetes-themed ornaments to hang on our Holiday Tree.
November 23: Christmas in the Park, Carbs in the Park: Tree Decorating
We’ll bring the ornaments, you bring the holiday spirit. Come to Cesar Chavez Plaza on November 23rd and help us decorate our Holiday Tree.
November 27: Giving Tuesday
Kick of the charitable giving season by giving to Carb DM on Giving Tuesday. You’ll be joining millions worldwide who support their favorite causes. After Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity to shift the focus from buying, onto giving. When you participate in Giving Tuesday, you’ll be declaring your support for philanthropy and helping Carb DM support the T1D community.
