Top reasons to attend Mother Daughter Weekend 2018

Mother Daughter Weekend 2018The Mother Daughter Weekend 2018 is just two weeks away! This two-day conference is a wonderful learning and networking event for girls with type 1 diabetes ages 12+ and their mothers (or female caregivers). Attendees will learn about all aspects (physical, emotional, social, etc..) of managing diabetes during a girl’s teen years. Moms and daughters will explore their relationships with friends, peers, and each other. More than just a learning event; Mother Daughter Weekend is also a networking and bonding event where lifelong friendships are made.

Year after year we receive enthusiastic feedback from moms and daughters who have attended Mother Daughter Weekend. Here’s a small sample of comments:

From a mom: “It was wonderful to have a weekend where it felt like time actually stopped for a while to give us time to reflect with other people experiencing similar challenges.”

From a daughter: “I feel more confident in caring for myself, and I want a pump now.”

Carb DM founder Tamar Sofer-Geri: “I think of the Mother Daughter Weekend as the crown jewel of Carb DM’s programs. It has everything I love about Carb DM: it fosters strong personal connections, it gives people access to excellent speakers and provides plenty of opportunities for peer-to-peer learning.”

Many moms and daughters have attended Mother Daughter Weekend several times. It’s one of Carb DM’s biggest events, and we look forward to it every year! Unsure of whether to register? Here are some things you can look forward to at this year’s event:

New compact schedule

We all know how hectic weekends can get when you have a tween or teen daughter. That’s why we’re keeping Mother Daughter Weekend 2018 short and sweet. This year’s program will run from Saturday, March 10, 10 am – Sunday, March 11, noon. You’ll still get opportunities to learn, network and bond, but you’ll still get a chance to catch up on your busy schedule.

Discounted registration

Get $50 off registration for each mother-daughter pair (normally $400)! To avail of this discount, register for Mother Daughter Weekend 2018 and enter the promo code SUBSIDIZED on the check out page.

Great location

Make the weekend even more special by booking a room at the conference site. Skip the weekend traffic and stay just steps away from all the learning and the socializing. We’ve negotiated a special rate with the Holiday Inn Dublin Pleasanton Hotel. You’ll receive a discount code after you register for Mother Daughter Weekend 2018, but hurry! Guaranteed hotel discount prices will expire this week, so book your rooms ASAP.

Craft activities

Get your crafty side on! We’ll be creating medical bracelets, friendship bracelets, and other artsy stuff. It’s the perfect gift for your newfound dia-besties or the perfect Mother Daughter Weekend 2018 memento.

Cool swag

Attendees will receive pampering Josie Moran beauty products, a cute bandana throw pillow, fun “Teen Kits” from the Alicia Rose Victorious Foundation, and more. Of course, the most important things you’ll be taking home with you are newfound knowledge, fond memories, and new friendships. But a nifty gift bag sure makes Mother Daughter Weekend 2018 that much sweeter!

Great speakers

We have a great cadre of speakers lined up to teach, share, and inspire. All of our speakers have extensive experience with diabetes management in their personal and professional lives. We are excited to welcome some familiar faces as well as fresh new voices to Mother Daughter Weekend 2018:

•Mary Wright, PWD, NP, CDE, Kaiser Permanente, Santa Clara.
•Marissa Hitchcock Town, PWD, RN, BSN CDE, Clinical Research Nurse, Stanford School of Medicine. The original “Child with Diabetes” behind “Children with Diabetes.”
•Diana Naranjo, spouse of PWD, PhD, Clinical Psychologist, Stanford Children’s Hospital,
•Karah Clifford, PWD and spouse of PWD, MFT.
•Melissa Lee, PWD, blogger at Sweetly Voiced, Director of Community Relations, Bigfoot Biomedical.
•Katie Craft, PWD, Child Life Specialist, Benioff Children’s Hospital, Oakland.
•Sarah Loebner, PWD, research coordinator, Stanford Children’s Hospital.

We can’t wait to hear what they have to say!

Dia-bestie bonding

Throw together a group of T1D teens who “get” each other’s T1D reality, add some craft activities, pool time, parent-free workshops, and what do you get? Lifelong dia-besties in the making!  Throw together moms who know what it’s like to care for a T1D child, and what do you get? Plenty of tips, tricks, and tears!  Moms leave the weekend connected not only to their own daughters, but to other mother-daughter duos as well, so they have a strong network of support to turn to when things get rough.

Mother-daughter bonding

Adolescent girls and their mothers already have enough to fight about without throwing diabetes into the mix. Mother Daughter Weekend gives moms and daughters the opportunity to nurture and build upon their relationship with each other. Join mother-daughter workshops will help moms and daughters work on their communicating and listening skills. Moms and girls also attend separate workshops so each generation gets a safe space to open up with their peers.

Mother Daughter Weekend 2018 will take place on March 10-11 at the Holiday Inn Dublin-Pleasanton. Girls with type 1 diabetes ages 12 and up are welcome to attend with their female caregivers. Registration is still open, but space is limited to 30 mother-daughter pairs. Click here to register. We hope to see you there!
