Summer will be here before you know it, and there’s no better way to celebrate the return of warmer weather than with a Lobster Feed! The American Board for Child Diabetes (ABC Diabetics) is hosting a traditional New England Style Lobster Feed next weekend at Half Moon Bay. Last year’s Lobster Feed was so successful that they decided to make it an annual event. This year’s Lobster Feed promises to be as enjoyable as the first one, and we at Carb DM are looking forward to it. Here are 10 reasons why you should go:
1) Enjoy the sunshine
The forecast for April 22 calls for sunny skies in Half Moon Bay. After a long, rainy winter, we’re ready to welcome the sun and usher in summer with the most summery of foods: a juicy, buttery lobster!
2) Take the family for a day out at Half Moon Bay
When was the last time you took your family out for a day on the Pacific Coast? With its beautiful beaches and quaint shops, Half Moon Bay is the perfect weekend destination for Bay Area families. Spend the morning boogie boarding, then the afternoon strolling through town. Finally, end the day on a delicious note by heading to Lobster Feed for some messy, yummy family fun.
3) Earth Day
Celebrate Earth Day by helping to clean up Mother Earth. Pacifica Beach Coalition and the California State Parks Foundation are just two of the many groups who are organizing beach cleanup activities at Half Moon Bay. After a day of cleaning up the beach, you won’t feel guilty about cleaning up your plate at Lobster Feed.
Let’s face it, you don’t need any more reason to go than lobster. And butter. And prawns, sausage, corn on the cob, artichokes, potatoes, and all the trimmings. Did we mention butter?
5) Silent auction and raffle
Get the chance to win raffle prizes for the cost of a ticket. In addition, bid on an auction item and get the chance to win some great items at below face value.
6) Nigel and Clive & the British Invasion
Enjoy live music all night long! You’ll hear classic rock-n-roll hits from the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and more from British cover band Nigel and Clive & the British Invasion. If their moppish haircuts and retro suits don’t put a smile on your face, their outrageous tales of being the original boy band will (According to them, the original British boy band set to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show; they missed their flight to the US and the producers were forced to call in the Beatles as a replacement).
7) Meet our Program Manager Sam
Carb DM’s Program Manager Sam King will be making a special appearance at the Lobster Feed with her son Eli. Sam will be talking about what it’s like living with T1D, and how ABC Diabetics works with Carb DM to improve the lives of people with type 1 diabetes.
8) Support ABC Diabetics
Proceeds from Lobster Feed will go towards ABC Diabetics’ mission of providing supplies and enriching life experiences to disadvantaged families living with diabetes. Your Lobster Feed ticket will benefit kids with type 1 diabetes through diabetes supplies and scholarships to programs like diabetes camp and Carb DM’s Mother Daughter weekend.
9) Support Carb DM
ABC Diabetics is a generous supporter of Carb DM, providing scholarship funds for mothers and daughters with type 1 diabetes to attend our Mother Daughter Weekend. When you support ABC Diabetics through Lobster Feed, you’re supporting Carb DM!
10) Build community
Finally, there is no better reason to get together than to connect with old friends and make new ones. Lobster Feed brings together members of the diabetes community in a festive, fun setting. You’ll be surrounded by people who understand what your life is like, and who believe that every person with type 1 diabetes deserves a happy, fulfilled life.
Get those lobster bibs ready, we’ll see you next weekand at Lobster Feed!
