Bringing children with type 1 diabetes together is important at any age, but none more so than the teenage years. When the sense of invincibility is strongest and the urge to blend in often compromises good judgement, it is important that teens with type 1 diabetes have safe place where they fit in WITH type 1 diabetes rather than without it, and where checking and bolusing and taking care of diabetes is the rule rather than the exception.
A1 Teens is a program that offers teens with T1D opportunities to get together in a fun environment: at a cafe, at bowling, at the movies, or an outing to miniature golf. The goal is to help teens to create a network of support that can sustain them and help them feel supported and empowered to manage their diabetes.
